A 20-Minute Hexie Break

That's the time it does take to sit at my desk for a quick break.... to make a hexie..... I have a second round of 12-hexagons... to attach to a ring of 18 white-border hexagons to make the larger starlight beauty I am working on.

Hand piecing just two pieces of fabric is a quick pin and sew by hand experience... just the two layers of fabric.. a single needle threading goes a long ways.....

I think I'll design this out tonight...................
I'm having to change the makeup of my Cathedral Window quilt.... it is tedious sewing through several layers..... and I'm now driving myself to and from work and church and everywhere.... So I get less done on the Cathedral Window.....

Now,,,, a bit of handiwork....

Here's a pincushion I downloaded off a fellow-blogger-site...

Basic Quilt Size and Measurements.....

basic quilt sizes:
A nice baby size quilt is around 42" x 52".
For a square baby quilt, anywhere from 36" to 42" works well.
A crib quilt measures 45" x 60".
A nice lap size quilt is 60" x 72".
Twin size, 63" x 88".
Full size, 78" x 88".
Queen, 84" x 92"
King, 100" x 92".
If you are making a quilt for a specific bed in your house, it's best to measure the top of your mattress and add the amount of overhang you want on each side, then you will have the perfect measurements for your bed. I'd recommend this, especially if you have a very deep mattress, or if you have head and foot boards to deal with. Or bunk beds. (Via Crazy Mom Quilts blogsite)

Organizing for my GFG Starlet Quilt

Now that I know I'm working through on my Starlet GFG (grandmother's flower garded) Quilt..... I put the fabric and time aside for the 18-hexagons that will be needed in a bone/beige colored fabric for the outer edges --- five will be needed to enclose a single star!!!   This outer/inset in fairly easy to remember at 1=center, 6=hex, 12=hex, 18=beige hex !!!

I've regrouped again.... in a carrying case for the making of this take-along quilt.

My life is but a weaving....

Author ~ Unknown....
Have I ever shared this poem with my sewist friends....???

My Life is but a weaving
Between the  Lord and me
I cannot choose the colors
He weaveth steadily.

Offtimes He weaveth sorrow
and I -- in foolish pride
Forget He sees the uppper
and I the underside.

Not 'til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And reveal the reasons why!

The dark threads may be needful
in the skillful weavers hand
And the thread of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned!

Woman is born to create

Woman is born to create. In creating she becomes herself, accomplishes her destiny. Her whole life is only an initiation into creative power. To create is not merely to produce a work, it is to give out ones own individuality.

Quilting As I go.... I'm a Working Woman.....

So therefore....  I keep my hands buzy..... and carry along my quilting stockpile in my car.   So, I'm often led to snap a pic of my day starting off in the parking lot of my job....

Here's my completed (about 21' point-to-point) .... one-inch hexies joined into a star....

Here --- I give thanks to a girlfriend who gave me this wonderful Coach Handbag.... (she's surely due for a quilt from a friend....)... A small way to count my blessings!
This is a borrowed - taken - image of a fellow-girl blogger's design wall... for which I'm following....

One Flower Wednesday ~ Thursday and Friday...hmmnnn

Well, the title of today's blog-post is such that..... In-deedy YES I made my superbly satisfying 1-inch hexies on Wednesday...

Then there were clouds rolling in..... I didn't get a news update.... then the power failed throughout the house, all the neighborhood... about 2pm/.   Man, I was having a wonderful stay-at-home day off work!   Sewing machine shut down.... no internet service on the juice left in my computer.   And my android phone was at work (additional peace and quiet on my day off)!

But, otherwise, the timing was perfect for an evening of hand-sewing....

I am Thankful for the 4th of July!

It was 235 years ago....The year was 1776.  A group of men representing the 13 colonies met together in Philadelphia to sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence.  As they did so, the Revolutionary War began and continued from 1775 to 1783.  The result of this War was an American victory and independence from Britain.  A great price that was paid, and continues to be paid to live in America.... I am thankful!
