Finished My "DOT DOROTHY" for Friday Post 1

Just finished up the measuring tape... a soft orange dotty print.... Paper-pieced Hat Lady.... I just might try to turn her lips upward into a smile next time.  She is a 10" block... with additional borders...  !!!

Thanks - fellow blog quilters.... Such a treat to participate in the Dot-to-Dot QAL!
I wish my camera had depth and greater brightness to the orange... I used a batik for flesh coloring of the skin.... all shades of orange for the eyes, hair and lipstick.... I love the accuracy and detail of paper-piecing... just a few fun hours of creative work!!

. . . and yes (ps) it is my hand-quilted cathedral quilt on the guest bed!

GEESH... My dots may be hand-pieced...

I rummaged thru my quilt fabric last night.... love this soft Orange.....  and some other groovy spotty-dotties!!!

Luvin' my Dotty Dot on Dot Hop ~ To Do List

I'll be out of town - weekend retreat.   I'll take my laptop (I've decided to utilize it much, much more.... rather than buying another toy - IPAD !!!) . . . . and I'll show and tell and post as I go.   But on today, I wanted to give myself a reminder of this upcoming Friday... to go home and pull out some dots... and a favorite pattern... it will probably be a paper-pieced - fussy - cut pattern!

thanks.... to Madame Samm  (Sew We Quilt...click to visit) for getting us quilt-girls together!  Gosh... I made it in on the last day!!!

In the mean-time....  I am grandmother's hands.... a wonderful song by Bill Withers...I'm 3/4's on the way to being finished with my Cathedral Window Quilt

Calculations:   (ABOVE)   I take an 8.5" muslin square, Fold and press into a single 3.5" square.   I join four(4) single squares

 in order to make a 7" four-patch unit.    (ABOVE) . . . I machine stitch FOUR -- 4-patch units together and   TA-DAAAA !!!   (BELOW)
Although I say there are 64 single square units joined in this picture.... there a many more fabric color pieces (since the joining of four-patches create another Cathedral Window.

I'll be happy to bus-travel and enjoy my bedroom at the weekend retreat.... and did I say hand-quilt a lot while I'm coming and going!!!

Here are my blog friends schedule!!

As I Am Aging Gracefully...... Finishing my UFO's

I want to quilt... Yet I don't want to quilt it!!!     Mixed emotions on completing this paper-pieced Compass Quilt...... and it is surprisingly longer/taller that it is in width.... so I'm adding a second color border.... not sure how the spikes will look....

I've also had mixed emotions about myself...... my image... aging gracefully....
...therefore we do not lose heart..... though outwardly we are wasting away.... yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us.... and eternal glory that far outweighs them all!!!!

So we fix our eyes  ---- Mine are gray - hazel....    we fix on eyes...NOT on what is seen . . . .

but on what is unseen.   For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.... II Corinthians 4:16-18!!

Capturing and Creating a new dream list

of quilts I'd like to make...... ideas and jpg's I've seen on various girlfriend quilt sites...

Here goes !!!

Boss.... I'm also a little tired......  depression comes and goes....  God's goodness... and my belief in him is solid!... rooted and grounded.......walking into the marvelous light!

An easy, wonderful airplane quilt.... I'm drawn to the quilting design on the simple color selection!

And.... One more red and white quilt!

Thankful for My Girlfriends......

I do think well of my friend, Cheryl Hunter (I'm name-callin again . . .Lord protect me from all internet scavengers....)....   It is so heart warming to construct, stitch and layout the subtle color changes of fabric that I already have sitting on my shelf.   I don't remember at all what or where or when I bought such good quality fabric.  I keep thinking I should make a selvedge quilt!  Here's a pic...   this sample quilt is really beautiful aka UGRR (underground rail road) quilt!

Glorious-ly Happy Fun days of quiltin...

I browsed at  B-Sewin....on south OKC.... a simple to pattern

I pulled out my 2-year old project of a Giraffe Quilt for my sister... dark border w/jungle-ly edging...
 I have a co-worker who asked for a Winnie-the-Pooh blanket.... It's about 40"x40"... the baby is growing so fast...Eric Brown Jr... born on March 14, 2012 !!!
I had a fun challenge to do this bow-tie quilt from random scap sets of fabric..... it's folded kinda funny to make it dimensional.....  having just 10-12 blocks... I again put my simple touch border and backing on it.

Again, out of the back of the closet came my son's ARMY quilt....    asked for a meandering quilt design!
NOW... for the good news.... all six of these quilts (3 large and 3 small) were delivered to long-arm quilter Bill Crye.... don't let me get in trouble calling names...
Just yesterday.... I took the eleven mile drive to just outside Guthrie, OK to Sooner Quilts.  Happy, Happy... there is the COMPASS paper-pieced quilt I also pulled out of the closet to-do!
Then.... from Black History Month 2011 -- I have a girlfriend waiting for this quilt!
